T-Ball

T-ball further introduces boys and girls to the game of baseball. The focus at this level remains to promote fun and enjoyment in an entirely non-competitive environment. Great steps are taken to ensure that the child achieves success on a small scale, whereby skills can gradually be introduced and mastered in future years.

Who Can Play?

Boys and girls “league age” 5 - 6 years old.

• Glove
• Helmet with chinstraps or a fitted helmet
• Running shoes or cleats

Parent Expectations

Parent participation on the field is mandatory for this age group to ensure all players have success. Parents are expected to volunteer at the year end Jamboree.

Schedule

• 2 x 1 hour games per week with a 30 minute practice prior to every game.
• Games are typically Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday at 6:00pm AND Saturdays at 12:00pm, 2:00pm, 4:00pm or 6:00pm. These days/times are subject to change depending on final registration numbers.
• All games are held at City Park.
• A year-end Jamboree is held in June.
• Season starts mid April and runs through to the end of June.

7 year olds

The goal is to promote an environment of fun and enjoyment first. This level continues to function in a completely non-competitive environment. No score or statistics of any kind are kept and coaches are again expected to play all players in all positions regardless of their individual skill levels. Our objective is to expand the player's understanding of game rules, basic position recognition and to introduce base running concepts.

• Helping the coach: dugout manager, base coach, assist with practice drills (if not enough coaches for the team).
• Your coach will be asking for one or two parents to step up as Team Parent(s) to assist with managing the team.
• Volunteer at the year-end Jamboree in June.

• 2 x 1½ hour games per week and 1 practice.
• Games are typically Saturdays and/or Sundays at 10:00am, 1:00pm or 4:00pm. Practices are on weeknights. These days/times are subject to change depending on final registration numbers.
• All games are held at Rotary Park.
• A year-end Jamboree is held in June.
• Season starts early April and runs in to June.

8 year olds

At this level of baseball, for the first time, a competitive situation is introduced as score keeping begins. All players will continue to play a variety of positions throughout the season. The emphasis is placed on teaching and advancing a player’s baseball skills and knowledge of the game through various drills. Prior to the season commencing, all players take part in an evaluation session to ensure teams have balanced skill levels. Post-season play is available.

Minors | 9-11 year old's

The players placed in this division are diverse both in terms of age and skills, and will be open to all 9 yr old players, most 10 yr old players (pending evaluations) and some 11 yr old players (pending evaluations).

Occasionally a 12 year old can request to play in the Minors (they will not be placed in Minors without both parent approval and approval from the board pending evaluations).

A full competitive game of baseball is played (6 innings, with 3 outs). Pitching and catching skills are introduced and/or improved at this level. Fair and equitable playing time for all players is to be maintained (all players must be on the field for a minimum of 3 defensive innings). Umpires are also a part of the game now.

Team standings will be recorded and used to seed teams during playoffs at the end of the regular season.  Tryouts for post-season teams are open to all players from this division.

The Mother’s Day tournament is as an in-house tournament for the Minors division. All Minors teams will have a berth in the tournament and teams will be responsible for all tournament duties.

All players must take part in a two-part evaluation process (fielding & batting) in order to balance teams and ensure players are placed in the appropriate division based on ability, skill level and safety considerations.

Who Can Play?

Boys and girls “league age” 9 years old (all 9 year old's are placed in this division), 10 years old (most 10 year old's will be placed in this division pending evaluations) and 11 years old (some 11 year old's will be placed in this division pending evaluations).

• All games are played in Langley, either at Conder Park or City Park against other teams in the division.

Majors A | 11 & 12 year olds

Our objectives at this level are to assist the players in refining and mastering the skills that have been presented thus far.  An emphasis is placed on accomplishment and player positioning is becoming more defined. This division will feature our most competitive atmosphere and will be open to our highest skilled 11 and 12 yr old players (pending evaluations). Occasionally, a 10 yr old that can compete at this level may be considered.

Players will begin to narrow their focus on a few positions where the majority of their game time will be played. There is mandatory play at the Major A level but it does not have to be comparable innings in the infield/outfield and there is no guarantee that players will pitch or catch in games. Players will be expected to make at least 80% of all games and practices.

Tryouts for post-season teams are open to all players from this division.

All players must take part in a two-part evaluation process (fielding & batting) in order to balance teams and ensure players are placed in the appropriate division based on ability, skill level and safety considerations.

Intermediate/Junior | 13 & 14 year olds

We are working in partnership with the Langley Blaze Organization, offering pitching, infield/outfield, and hitting resources to aid all our divisions in development, to allow for fundamental growth for all players.

This age group will be using a tiered system, that depending on registration, will consist of 2-4 teams at the 13/14-Year-old level.

Please see below for a detailed synopsis of each team we will be offering.

Major A Tier 1 AAA:
This team will be called the Langley Baseball Blaze.  They will begin practices and games in early March with league play ending in early June and then into the summer season to be announced at a later date.  They will travel to at least one USA tournament (March-spring break) as well as to a tournament in Kamloops in April.  They will also compete in 1-2 more local tournaments.  This level will be offered to high level players who are committed to an intense baseball schedule (5-6 days a week potentially), and who are looking at avenues to try out for high level bantam teams such as the Langley Blaze in the future.

PLEASE NOTE: This division will have an additional team tee for each player that makes this team. The Additional Fee is $500.00. This fee is to cover additional costs for extra tournaments, balls, swag etc.)

Major A Tier 2 AA:
This team will also have opportunities to travel to tournaments, but will participate in 1-3 local tournaments, including our own Langley Baseball Pink Bat Tournament. Players from this team would also be eligible for summer season play, based on tryouts for the various teams to be announced for Summer at a later date.  It will begin practices in March and games in late March/early April.  This team's schedule is a little less intense, and may be 3-5 days a week and is intended for those that still wish to compete at a competitive level, but may not want the intense level of play or commitment at the Major A Tier 1 AAA level or skilled players still looking to develop their skills to the next level.

PLEASE NOTE: This division will have an additional team tee for each player that makes this team. The Additional Fee is $250.00. This fee is to cover additional costs for extra tournaments, balls, swag etc.)

Major B (Developmental Level):
Depending on evaluations and registration numbers).  This would be for newly developing players that are interested in playing and working on more fundamental skills with less pressure then playing on a more competitive team.  They will still have league games and could play in single A tournaments and would also be able to play at our own tournament.  This schedule is still likely 2-4 days a week, but the level is more fundamental skill oriented.

Our Intermediate/Junior Division is where players can adjust to a larger, regulation size diamond.  At this time, the player is introduced to a variety of new rules and requirements. Games are now 7 innings and sometimes played under the lights.  Metal cleats are also allowed.

Tryouts for post-season teams are open to all players from this division.

Seniors | 15 & 16 year olds

We will be working in partnership with the Langley Blaze Organization, offering pitching, infield/outfield, and hitting resources to aid all our divisions in development, to allow for fundamental growth for all players.

This team is a 15/16-Year-old Senior level team (dependent on registration numbers).

Each team may have an additional team fee that will cover extra costs such as extra tournament fees which will be discussed with parents prior to evaluations.  All travel associated costs would also be the responsibility of the players family who is traveling for out-of-town tournaments.

This team would compete at tournaments to be determined and would compete in a league schedule as well.  It would likely be 3-5 days a week.

Registration will begin on November 1st and will close in Mid January.  Evaluations (if necessary) for the various tiers of teams will be held in late January/early February. Information will be sent out to all registered families prior to evaluations about the format, expected team fees (if any) and about the coaches who will be involved in the various teams.

Challenger

Challenger baseball is for any child, age 5 and up, who wishes to play baseball, but for physical or cognitive reasons can’t play in a traditional division. Challenger registration with Langley Baseball is free.

Fall Ball

Fall ball is open to all players who have reached a minimum of age 6 before August 31st of the current year.

The season will run from early September to mid/late October depending on the weather. Player commitment will be 1 practice per week and 1 game on the weekend, with the main focus being skill development.

Age groups may be mixed based on registration numbers, and due to the short time-line we ask you to understand that no special placements will be accommodated.

Winter Clinics

Winter Clinics are open to all players ages 5 thru 18 (based on the following season's age calculation). To qualify, players must turn 5 years old by August 31 of the following season, or turn 19 after August 31, of the following season.

Typically these instructional clinics will begin in early November and run until mid March. Due to the global pandemic, we are working hard to secure space. If we are successful in securing space, winter clinics will commence mid January 2021 to March 2021.

This is a great opportunity to introduce and prepare your player for the next level of baseball.

Players will receive approximately 13-17 sessions (depending on age group) of instructional development training.
