Minutes of the meeting held November 18, 2009.
The meeting was held at the Twin Rinks arena at 7:00 pm.
Those present: Dawn Schmidt, Dan McLaren, Gord Apolzer, Sheila Engh, John Roberts, Dean Cantelon, Randy Pinder, Neil Billows, Melinda Woznesensky.
The meeting was called to order by Vice-President Dan McLaren.
Moved: to adopt the minutes of the previous meeting. Motion carried.
Reports:
President: (Neil Billows arrived at this time, creating a quorum.) Neil reports having attended District meetings.
Financial: Sheila Engh reports that the Concession account stands at $12,660.03, the Gaming at $6069.32, the Jr. Tournament Account at $1,034.90, and the General account at $6,468.15 (approximately, there are uncleared cheques). All expenses for the Junior Tournament have now been accounted for, and all the major expenses for the League have been paid. It is now time to settle the Concession account with the concession operator, and for the Junior tournament to repay the start-up loan from the League.
Vice-President; Equipment return; Umpires: Dan McLaren reports that planning is underway for umpire clinics over the winter. He is well underway with reorganizing the equipment room and has several suggestions for making inventory control simpler in the future.
Concession: Melinda Woznesensky presented her final accounting and is to be paid her share of the profits for both the regular season and the Junior tournament.
Old business:
Junior tournament financials are nearly complete. A report will be presented at the next meeting.
New business:
Winter Clinics: Randy Pinder reports that clinics are well underway with good attendance in the 9 - 12 year division; there are no clinics as yet for 13 & up. Randy hopes we can get the use of Langley Secondary School gym; we might get some use of the Lacrosse Box. The new Blaze batting/pitching facility on 216th St. will be available for our Juniors and Seniors.
Registration: the first early registration will be at Blacklock Elementary Saturday November 21; Neil Billows will email all last year’s registrants with notice of the registration and attach a registration form. Ads have been placed in the Langley Times and notices sent to all the schools in Langley school district. Sign boards are ready to be placed - discussion as to location.
2010 Budgets: this was moved to next meeting.
Tournaments for 2010: White Rock is believed to be bidding for the Seniors (15-16) Nationals; Langley is hosting the District Tournament for 9/10, beginning on July 1, 2010; North Langley is hosting the Provincial 9/10 tournament; Whalley is hosting the District 11/12 tournament and the Drew Henderson tournament for 11 year olds; 11/12 Provincials at New Westminster; 13/14 (Juniors) provincial at Coquitlam; 11/12 Nationals in Ontario; 13/14 Nationals in the Maritimes; Big league (16-18) on the Praires. We are considering bidding for the Seniors (15/16) Provincial tournament. As well Langley will be hosting our usual May 24th tournament and also the Mothers’ Day weekend tournament.
Field work projects: the fields need a lot of work.
Coaching applications: there is a new level of clearance on the Criminal Record Check required for all coaches.
Division alignment: Moved: that the divisional structure in the 9 - 12 year old divisions be changed from the existing 4 groups to the following 3 groups: Age 11/12 Majors Division 1 (drafted teams); Age 10 - 11 - 12 Majors Division 2 (drafted teams); Age 9 - 10 - 11 Minors division. Majors teams will be allowed to retain rostered players from one year to the next. Players will have the option to re-enter the draft pool each year prior to the draft. Motion: carried.
Moved: that the executive appoint a committee to establish proper guidelines and policies prior to the 2010 player draft. Motion carried.
Batathon: this discussion moved to next meeting; also discussion of other fundraising projects.
Next meeting: Friday, December 4, 2009 at the Ice House Pub at the Twin Rinks on Langley By-Pass; 7:00 pm start.
